A new 3.5-kilometre runway at Kutaisi International Airport is expected to open by the end of 2026, Levan Moseshvili, head of United Airports of Georgia, said.

Construction of the runway and related infrastructure is in its final stage. The new facility will allow the airport to handle larger aircraft and support the development of cargo terminals and air freight services.

Mosheshvili said Kutaisi Airport will join Tbilisi in handling Georgia’s air cargo operations, with the new infrastructure expected to support the launch of cargo transportation.

Construction of the runway began in late 2024. According to the 2026 state budget, the project has a total cost of GEL179.5 million and is being carried out by Anagi at the request of the United Airports of Georgia.
