Georgia’s Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, Mariam Kvrivishvili, announced that 2026 will be a landmark year, marked by the transition of the Anaklia deep-sea port project into its active construction phase and the completion of the Baku–Tbilisi–Kars (BTK) railway project. She made the statement during an event celebrating the completion of Georgia’s railway modernization project.

According to the minister, Georgia holds “significant opportunities” in the transport and logistics sector. To advance these ambitions, the government plans to invest 7 billion GEL in strategic transport infrastructure by 2032, including 1 billion GEL allocated specifically for the further development of the national railway.

Kvrivishvili highlighted that starting next year, Georgia will begin renewing its fleet of locomotives and expanding rolling stock. She added that work is underway to streamline railway operations, eliminate administrative barriers, and digitize services. As a result, the travel time on the Tbilisi–Batumi route is expected to be reduced by 30 minutes by the summer of 2026.

The minister emphasized that Georgia’s national priorities now focus on economic growth, security, stability, and sustainable development, aligned with the country’s peace policy. “Every initiative and every new or ongoing project serves one purpose, to build a more developed, prosperous, peaceful, and unified country,” Kvrivishvili stated.
