Georgia’s Economy Minister Mariam Kvrivishvili said there is “very strong interest” in the Anaklia deep-sea port project from multiple international regions, including China, Central Asia, Azerbaijan, and Western countries.

Speaking at a briefing where the government confirmed the port will be fully state-owned, she noted that the state is launching an open and transparent process to select strategic operators for terminal management. According to her, interest comes from both state-linked and private companies with experience in port operations and access to cargo flows.

Kvrivishvili stressed that participating companies must have operational expertise in port infrastructure, the ability to attract or already possess cargo flows, and sufficient financial capacity to develop terminal facilities and equipment for large-scale operations.

She reiterated that despite broad international interest, no equity stake in the port will be sold. The state will retain 100% ownership of the Anaklia port, while international companies will only participate as terminal operators under lease agreements, with no involvement in ownership.
