In an ongoing effort to combat illegal drug trafficking, Armenia's State Revenue Committee (SRC) has foiled an attempt to smuggle a large shipment of cocaine through the country.
Officers from the SRC's Department of E-commerce and Air Transport conducted a customs inspection of a Dominican Republic citizen arriving on a transit flight. During the inspection, 3 kilograms of cocaine were found cleverly concealed in camera and laptop cases among the passenger's belongings.
A criminal case has been initiated under charges of smuggling and illegal drug trafficking. The suspect has been arrested by court order.
Further investigative actions revealed that the final destination of the drugs was Turkey, with Armenia being used only as a transit point.
The SRC continues its investigation to identify other possible participants in the criminal scheme. Further updates on the investigation will be provided in due course.
