Live Pig Imports in Georgia Rise 40% – Russia Remains Main Supplier

რუსული ღორი

In the first two months of 2026, Georgia imported 3,590 tons of live pigs worth $5.5 million, an increase of 39.6% in value and 31% in volume compared to the same period last year.

As in the previous year, Russia remains the sole supplier.

However, the situation in Russia’s Novosibirsk region is unstable due to infectious animal diseases, including rabies and pasteurellosis, which have prompted a state of emergency.

Belarus has temporarily restricted imports of livestock, meat, and other animal products from several Russian regions, effective March 13, 2026. Belarus, where quarantine measures are in place, is Georgia’s main meat supplier.

The National Food Agency of Georgia oversees live animal and meat imports, conducting over 6 million veterinary procedures annually to ensure epidemiological safety.
