Georgia and Azerbaijan have reaffirmed their commitment to deepening cooperation in the energy sector, as Economy and Sustainable Development Minister Mariam Kvrivishvili met with Azerbaijan’s Minister of Energy Parviz Shahbazov, who arrived in Tbilisi with a delegation for the “Green Energy Cable” ministerial, hosted this year by Georgia.

According to the Ministry of Economy, the discussion focused on key areas of bilateral cooperation, with particular emphasis on the flagship Green Energy Cable project, a major initiative designed to connect the South Caucasus power system to the European grid. Both ministers underscored the project’s strategic importance, noting that it will play a crucial role in expanding renewable energy capacity and enhancing transit and trade opportunities between the European Union and the South Caucasus.

The Ministry highlighted that Georgia and Azerbaijan continue to actively strengthen their partnership to advance energy security, regional integration, and sustainable development, describing the collaboration as essential for achieving shared strategic goals.

In addition to the cable project, the meeting also addressed the development of power infrastructure and hydro resources, as well as the expansion of cooperation in the oil and gas sectors. Georgian officials noted that the country’s energy potential creates a solid basis for deeper collaboration in hydropower, solar, wind, and other non-traditional renewable energy technologies.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Ministers Inga Pkhaladze and Genadi Arveladze, Alexander Sokhadze, Head of the Energy Policy and Investment Projects Department, Vano Zardiashvili, Director General of the Georgian State Electrosystem, and Tornike Kazarashvili, Director General of ESCO.
