According to the Prime Minister of Georgia, Irakli Kobakhidze, he is sure that the meeting between the party chairman of "Georgian Dream" and the American ambassador will be very productive in terms of restarting relations with the USA.
As the Prime Minister notes, the meeting between Bidzina Ivanishvili and Robin Dunnigan will take place very soon after the end of the elections.
"You know that it is fundamentally important for us to restart relations with both the United States of America and the European Union. Based on this, naturally, we are all happy that there is already an agreed meeting between Mr. Bidzina Ivanishvili and the American ambassador, which will definitely take place very soon after the elections. I am sure that this meeting will also help reset relations. We are doing everything for it and we will do everything for it, the main thing is that we see the next steps. I will say once again that I am sure that this meeting will be very productive in terms of restarting relations," said Kobakhidze.
At the same time, the Prime Minister explains that Bidzina Ivanishvili did not want to hold any type of meeting with foreigners under blackmail and now that certain circumstances have changed, he is ready to meet with the ambassador of the United States of America.
"Actually, blackmail was going on against Mr. Bidzina Ivanishvili. As soon as the war in Ukraine started, his funds were immediately frozen, transfers to his accounts were stopped, and against this background, he did not want, for an absolutely objective reason, to hold meetings. These processes continued for two years and that is why Bidzina refrained from Ivanishvili's meetings. He did not want to hold any type of meeting with foreigners under blackmail. Now that certain circumstances have changed, he is ready to hold such a meeting. The American ambassador expressed a similar willingness, which is very good. This meeting will significantly contribute to restarting relations between Georgia and the United States of America," Kobakhidze said.
