Mestia currently has no natural gas supply due to the region’s mountainous terrain and complex geographical conditions, leaving residents and businesses dependent on electricity or liquefied gas for their needs.

Local hospitality businesses identify the lack of gas infrastructure as one of the main challenges for the municipality. Levan Dadvani, owner of Lahili Hotel, says it is difficult for a major tourism destination to operate without access to natural gas.

“For a region that aims to be one of the country’s top tourism destinations, it is very difficult to function without gas supply. If we want to protect the environment and continue developing, it is essential that one of Georgia’s leading resorts has access to gas infrastructure in the 21st century,” Dadvani told TV-program Business Course.
