The installation of balancing electricity meters in Mestia Municipality is proceeding according to schedule and is expected to be completed by late autumn, GNERC Chairman Davit Narmania told BMG.
According to Narmania, the meters will provide detailed information on electricity consumption across different areas and enable the commission to conduct more comprehensive analysis of consumption patterns.
He said individual metering could be considered as a next stage, although no final decision has yet been made on its implementation.
The issue of metering in Mestia came to the forefront after the government announced measures on June 1 to combat cryptocurrency mining in the mountainous region. At the time, the authorities said they planned to introduce individual metering while maintaining free electricity for local residents within a specified consumption limit, with electricity above that threshold subject to a tariff.
