Georgia’s energy and water regulator plans to review natural gas and water tariffs by the end of 2026, Georgian National Energy and Water Supply Regulatory Commission (GNERC) Chairman Davit Narmania has announced.
Narmania said electricity tariffs will not be reviewed at the end of the year, as new rates were introduced several months ago and are set to remain in effect over the medium term. The current regulatory periods for water and gas tariffs expire at the end of December, prompting the scheduled reviews.
Under GNERC’s existing methodology, tariff regulation follows three-year cycles, after which rates are reassessed and set for the next period. The upcoming reviews are part of this regular process and do not necessarily mean tariffs will increase.
Electricity prices in Georgia already rose in March, with new rates taking effect on April 1. Household electricity tariffs increased by GEL 0.05 per kWh, while rates for businesses rose by GEL 0.04–0.06 per kWh. Commercial natural gas tariffs, meanwhile, are deregulated, allowing suppliers to change prices without GNERC approval, provided customers are notified one month in advance.
