Georgia’s new natural gas and water tariffs are expected to be finalized by late December, according to Giorgi Pangani, a member of the Georgian National Energy and Water Supply Regulatory Commission (GNERC).
Parliament passed amendments on October 28 allowing GNERC to introduce differentiated tariffs based on consumption. The regulator is developing a new pricing methodology ahead of the expiration of current tariffs in December.
Pangani said the new system would prioritize vulnerable consumers while encouraging energy efficiency. Average gas consumption in Georgia is 192 cubic meters per consumer, compared with 140 cubic meters in Western Europe.
Several pricing models are under consideration, and the exact tariff structure will be announced after the methodology is approved.
