Employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the General Prosecutor's Office and the Ministry of Finance, as a result of jointly conducted complex operational and investigative actions, arrested an Iranian citizen - B.T., MIA reports.
According to the Ministry, the committed crime envisions up to 20 years or life imprisonment.
"Within the framework of the joint project of the United Nations Office against Drugs and Crime and the World Customs Organization - Container Control Program, the law enforcement officers identified a dangerous truck operated by the accused person in the port of Poti. During the search of the vehicle, in the two rear doors of the trailer, 315 packages weighing up to 80 kilograms of narcotic drug "Heroin" were seized as evidence.
The investigation established that the defendant, a citizen of the Islamic Republic of Iran, intended to transport a particularly large amount of narcotic drugs from Iran to Europe through Armenia and Georgia.
The investigation is being conducted under Articles 260 and 262 of the Criminal Code of Georgia.
