Poti Port Expansion Still Under Consideration, Says Kobakhidze

ირაკლი კობახიძე

Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze says that all infrastructure projects linked to Georgia’s transit role will continue to develop, including both the Poti Port and the planned Anaklia deep-sea port. He made the comment in response to a BM.GE question, but did not provide specific details on the delayed Poti expansion.

He stressed that strengthening connectivity and transit capacity remains a key government priority, stating that “all relevant infrastructure will be upgraded and developed,” including major port facilities.

The $300 million Poti Port expansion project, under discussion between APM Terminals and the government since 2018, is still unresolved. Port officials say the facility is operating at full capacity, while government review processes are ongoing.

BM.GE has requested further clarification from the Ministry of Economy regarding the status of the project evaluation and will publish updates once available.
