A new calibration laboratory for electrical quantities, time, and frequency has been inaugurated in Armenia. The €4.1 million project was funded by the European Union and supported by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO).
The opening ceremony was attended by Armenia’s Minister of Economy, Gevorg Papoyan; the Head of the EU Delegation and Ambassador, Vassilis Maragos; and Bernard Bau, Head of UNIDO’s Competitiveness, Quality, and Compliance Division. The laboratory was established under the National Institute of Standards and Metrology.
The new facility will provide services to enterprises in the energy, telecommunications, industrial, defense, and transport-logistics sectors, as well as manufacturers and service providers of medical equipment and high-tech products.
“Strengthening metrological capabilities opens new opportunities for our country to promote new quality standards and improve goods and services as part of export diversification,” noted Minister Papoyan.
Plans are already underway to open three additional modern calibration laboratories. These facilities will ensure measurement compliance with the International System of Units, supporting export expansion and the development of industrial processes in the country.
