Vassilis Maragos, the head of the European Union delegation to Armenia, expressed confidence in significant progress in the development of relations between the EU and Armenia. This statement was made at hearings on the topic "New Perspectives and Challenges of Armenia's Euro-Integration," convened in the National Assembly on April 4.
The ambassador emphasized that the European Union continues to actively engage with Armenia, especially in the Syunik region. "Together with our member states, we have mobilized over 120 million euros for more than 35 projects in Syunik," he noted.
Maragos also highlighted the importance of security for many people in Armenia, noting progress in cooperation in this area. "The European Union intends to support the Armed Forces of the Republic of Armenia by providing non-lethal weapons and other significant resources to strengthen their capabilities. This includes cooperation within the framework of the European Peace Mechanism," he stressed.
Ambassador Maragos emphasized that the EU remains fully committed to stabilizing and resolving the situation in the region, including organizing meetings convened by the President of the Council of Europe.
BMG reminds that the hearings in the National Assembly took place before the meeting of the Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan, the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen, and the US Secretary of State Antony Blinken in Brussels on April 5. It is reported that during the meeting, ways of trilateral cooperation contributing to the development of Armenia will be discussed.
