At a recent press conference in Yerevan, Michael Roth, Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Bundestag, made a statement that could mark a new stage in relations between the European Union and Armenia.
Roth emphasized that the EU fully understands Armenia's expectations and believes the time has come for concrete action. According to him, the events in Ukraine have led to a reassessment of the EU's approach to Eastern European countries, including Armenia. Now, the European Union is striving to "open opportunities" for these nations.
The German politician also touched on the topic of Russian propaganda, calling the claims that the EU allegedly forces countries to align with Europe at the expense of relations with Russia "cheap."
Roth stressed Armenia's sovereign right to choose its own path of development, adding that he personally would welcome closer ties between Armenia and the EU.
Earlier, BMG reported that on September 9, Armenia and the EU announced the start of a dialogue on visa regime liberalization. The goal of this process is to support Armenia in establishing a visa-free regime for short-term travel to EU countries while ensuring the necessary conditions for effectively managed mobility and security.
