According to data from the Statistical Committee of Armenia, 11,297 people died in the country from January to May 2024, which is 5.5% more compared to the same period last year.
Cardiovascular diseases remain the leading cause of death, claiming the lives of 6,215 people, accounting for 55% of all deaths and representing an increase of 6.8% compared to the same period in 2023.
Neoplasms are the second leading cause of death, accounting for 19.1% (2,161 people) of the total number of deaths. The number of deaths from this cause increased by 2.7% over the year.
The third most significant cause of death is respiratory diseases, which caused 1,096 deaths (9.7% of the total), an increase of 6.4% from the previous year.
Other significant causes of mortality include digestive system diseases, accounting for 5.2% or 591 deaths, an increase of 14.1%; external causes of morbidity and mortality, accounting for 3.7% or 418 deaths, with a 7.5% increase; and endocrine diseases, accounting for 1.8% or 201 deaths, with a 10.4% increase.
