MTA LLC is seeking a GEL 409,280 simplified procurement ahead of the 2026–2027 winter season to ensure safety in the Kobi-Gudauri area and monitor avalanche-prone zones. The procurement includes avalanche control systems and specialized equipment for continuous monitoring, forecasting and assessing potential avalanches.
According to MTA, maintaining safety standards and artificially triggering avalanches at 72 designated avalanche points across the ski resorts under its management is critical. The existing stock of SECUBEX materials has been fully depleted and needs to be replenished before the upcoming winter season.
MTA says purchasing the required equipment from an alternative supplier is not possible because the manually fired charges specified under the avalanche management plan are designed to match the existing system’s technical parameters, including explosive charge and dispersion range. Replacing them with products from another manufacturer could reduce the effectiveness of the process.
The procurement also includes batteries and components for GAZEX systems installed at elevations of 2,800–3,200 meters, where around 90% of locations are inaccessible to people during winter. The required batteries must operate at temperatures as low as -40°C. MTA also cites six years of experience with GAZEX systems, saying only original parts supplied by the official dealer can ensure reliable operation throughout the winter season.
