The Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, Mariam Kvrivishvili, introduced the new head of the Georgian State Electrosystem (GSE), Davit Vardiashvili, to the company’s employees.
The Economy Minister congratulated the new director general on his appointment and wished him success in his work. She also thanked GSE’s former head, Vano Zardiasvhili, for his service.According to a press release issued by GSE, Vano Zardiasvhili left his position at his own request.According to the ministry, Davit Vardiashvili has many years of experience in public service and state administration. At various times, he served as Director General of the Georgian Gas Transportation Company, Director for Financial Affairs at the Georgian Oil and Gas Corporation, and held positions as a member of the Board of Managers/director at the Georgian State Electrosystem. From 2022 to 2025, he served as the First Deputy State Representative (Governor) in the Samtskhe-Javakheti region. In 2016–2017, he was Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs. He also worked in the structures of the Revenue Service for 14 years.
Davit Vardiashvili holds a Doctor of Technical Sciences degree and is a member of the Georgian Engineering Academy. He is also the author of a scientific monograph and numerous technical and scientific papers.
BMG reported in early August that Vano Zardiasvhili had been removed from his position. At the time, information circulating on social media suggested that Zardiasvhili’s resignation was linked to the electricity outages across Georgia on July 24–25, a claim that was also confirmed to BMG by several sources.
According to our information, Vano Zardiasvhili submitted his resignation on Friday, July 31, and is currently officially on leave.
On August 3, the Ministry of Economy confirmed that Davit Vardiashvili was serving as acting director of the Georgian State Electrosystem, while Vano Zardiasvhili was on leave. The ministry also told BMG that Vardiashvili had been appointed deputy director of GSE. However, the ministry did not answer questions about when the head of the Gas Transportation Company was appointed to the position or who replaced him as head of the company.
