GNERC Chairman Davit Narmania announced that the regulator will soon determine a new electricity tariff, following the expiration of the temporary rates currently in place.
“Until the end of March, temporary tariffs are in effect in the electricity sector. Due to certain uncertainties, the regulator previously set temporary rates. Now that the electricity balance and expected generation from various facilities are known, the commission will deliberate and establish a new tariff. The relevant department is already working on it. Regarding regulatory audits, inspections of all companies have been completed, and there are no new developments. As in previous periods, the new tariff will be set through an open and transparent administrative process,” Narmania said, adding that so far, companies have not altered their investment plans.
At the end of last year, Narmania indicated that an increase in electricity tariffs was planned, though the revision was later paused for three months. Previously, Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze stated that he would meet with sector representatives to prevent a tariff increase. GNERC sets electricity tariffs for five years, taking into account companies’ investment plans and other costs.
