Robin Dunnigan, the newly appointed Ambassador of the United States to Georgia, has arrived in the country, the Embassy said on Thursday.

Dunnigan arrives to assume the diplomatic office to replace Kelly Degnan, who served in the country since 2020.

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili last month said he welcomed the designation of Dunnigan and further pointed out his Government planned to “actively and closely cooperate [with her] in order to deepen and strengthen bilateral relations”.

Iraikli Kobakhidze, the head of the ruling Georgian Dream party, last month said he was “optimistic” about the newly appointed diplomat, and added he hoped she would “radically change the policy pursued” by her predecessor Kelly Degnan.

Kobakhidze added he was looking forward to the cooperation with the new Ambassador “with great interest”.

President Joe Biden in February submitted the candidacy of Dunnigan for the position to the Senate, with the nomination officially confirmed in July.

Dunnigan served as the Chargé d’Affaires and Deputy Chief of mission at the US Embassy in Austria between 2018-2021.

She also served at US embassies in Vietnam, Chile, Turkey, Cuba and El Salvador, working extensively on trade and investment, energy and sanctions issues.

She is a graduate of the National War College, where she earned a Master of Science in National Security Strategy, and also received a Master of Science in Foreign Service from Georgetown University and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of California at Berkeley.
