Economic expert Ramaz Gerliani spoke about the current state of property rights in the country on the program "Business Morning".
According to him, the existing problems in terms of protection of property rights are one of the main reasons for the decline in foreign investments. As of Ramaz Gerliani, another important factor is the state's interference in large investment projects.
He notes that the change of Prime Minister or specific ministers often has dire consequences for the implementation of investment projects. Guerlaini cites the Anaklia and Digital Silk Road projects as examples.
"The main thing about investments is the approach of the state. The state has announced that it should play a key role in Anaklia Port project, as well as in digital silk road project. We see that approaches change in line with the change of the Cabinet. As soon as the government changed, the approach towards Anaklia has changed and the project failed. We also have seen that the digital silk road project has already been put into great question. Perhaps the population has not yet fully grasped how big the project is and how we can lag behind in wasting this precious time, when this problem is created due to the minor misconduct from the law. This was done in order to appoint a special manager in the company. No international investor will invest in such a country when he has no guarantee of what will happen after the change of government, or even after the change of ministers”, Ramaz Gerliani said.
