Infrastructure Minister Revaz Sokhadze announced that technical salt will no longer be used for winter road maintenance in tourist zones. The move is part of a broader strategy to modernize road management and reduce environmental impact.
Speaking during an interpellation session in the Parliament, Sokhadze said the Ministry of Infrastructure is developing new strategies and standards for road maintenance.
“A new strategy and standards for road maintenance are being developed. It is very important that we take innovative steps in this direction. For example, this year we will try to stop using technical salt in tourist zones during the winter, which creates discomfort for visitors and also damages the roads,” Sokhadze said.
He added that the new approach, starting next year, will aim to enhance the resilience of road infrastructure while minimizing environmental harm.
The initiative reflects the government’s commitment to sustainable tourism and improved road quality in Georgia’s key travel destinations.
