Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze is not scheduled to meet U.S. President Donald Trump during his visit to the United States, Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili said. He said the trip is focused on participation in the UN General Assembly rather than a bilateral visit.
Papuashvili said Kobakhidze will address the General Assembly and hold meetings with UN institutions. He added that Georgia remains ready to reset and deepen bilateral relations with the United States.
According to Papuashvili, the Georgian government is satisfied with the current dynamics of Georgia-U.S. relations and is prepared for closer cooperation. He pointed to communication between the two countries’ institutions and a recent phone call between Kobakhidze and the U.S. Secretary of State.
During his New York visit, Kobakhidze is also expected to attend the “Multilateral Partnership” summit and a high-level peace panel organized by Finland. The government says bilateral meetings with leaders of other countries and UN Secretary-General António Guterres are also planned.
