The number of people receiving subsistence assistance in Georgia fell by 23,241 in September compared with August, according to the Social Service Agency. As a result, 547,115 people received the benefit in September 2026.
Of these, 141,653 people are enrolled in the state employment program, which was discontinued for new participants in 2026. However, those who have not yet completed their four-year participation period remain in the system. Since January, benefits have been suspended for 163,111 people.
On October 7, Health Minister Mikheil Sarjveladze said the government had saved tens of millions of GEL by reviewing the database of socially vulnerable families. He noted that the verification process began in February, with 65,000 families already reviewed in the initial phase.
Sarjveladze said the database is continuously updated as families are added or removed based on changing circumstances, making it difficult to provide a precise final figure for savings. He added that verification would continue to improve the accuracy of the database and ensure assistance reaches eligible recipients.
