Sozar Subari, one of the leaders of the parliamentary political group People’s Power, has proposed increasing social assistance for war veterans and children who have lost a breadwinner under the 2027 state budget.

Subari said the current monthly allowance of GEL 100 for veterans who risked their lives and health in service to the country was “truly humiliating” and called for it to be at least doubled.

According to Subari, Georgia has 51,284 veterans, of whom 27,295 receive the GEL 100 allowance. Doubling the payment would bring total annual spending on the benefit to GEL 65.508 million, increasing the budget by approximately GEL 32 million, he said.

Subari also proposed doubling social benefits for children who have lost a breadwinner, describing the current payments as insufficient. He noted that the allowance rose from GEL 55 before 2012 to GEL 100 in 2013, and was increased to GEL 150 in 2019 for children who had lost both breadwinners. Doubling these payments would cost approximately GEL 20 million annually, he said, arguing that neither proposal would place a significant burden on the state budget.
