Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze said the relevant authorities would investigate any potential wrongdoing at Georgian Post, while the government’s priority was to improve the company’s operations. He made the remarks in response to a BMG question about the investigation.
Kobakhidze said Georgian Post had operated at a loss for years, but its performance improved significantly after Giorgi Eradze became head of the company. Management changes generated millions of lari in savings and additional revenue, and the company is expected to record a profit for the first time this year, with further growth anticipated.
The Prime Minister added that improving management efficiency and addressing internal problems was an ongoing process. He cited Georgian Railway as another example of efforts to improve operations and clean up internal processes.
The Finance Ministry’s Investigation Service confirmed to BMG that an investigation is underway but did not disclose when it began, what period it covers, or whether former director Levan Chikvaidze is involved. On October 7, Kobakhidze alleged that intermediary companies previously used by Georgian Post had created opportunities for corruption, adding that the relevant authorities would establish the facts.
