The Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture reports that over 300 hectares of new peach and plum orchards have been cultivated across Georgia as part of the program "Plant the Future".
The total investment in these horticultural projects exceeds 4.3 million GEL, with the Rural Development Agency providing 1.7 million GEL in co-financing.
As part of the program's ongoing monitoring efforts, Minister Davit Songulashvili visited one of the beneficiaries, Nikoloz Getiashvili, in the village of Gurjaani. Getiashvili has developed a diverse orchard farm with the support of the Rural Development Agency.
According to the Ministry, the farmer received approximately 20,000 GEL in co-financing under the "Plant the Future" program, alongside more than 240,000 GEL in preferential agrocredit. Today, his farm spans 28 hectares and includes peach, plum, apricot, and cherry plum orchards. This season, he expects to harvest around 250 tons of fruit.
During the visit, the Minister discussed key production challenges with the farmer. It was noted that state initiatives, ranging from orchard cultivation to the development of cold storage and processing infrastructure, have significantly boosted agricultural output and contributed to increased incomes for rural communities.
The program "Plant the Future" continues to play a pivotal role in strengthening Georgia’s fruit-growing sector and supporting the country’s broader rural development goals.
