As of October 13, wine enterprises in the Kakheti region have already processed about 283 thousand tons of grapes,- according to the Ministry of Agriculture.
Of the processed grapes:
- 145 thousand tons are Rkatsiteli,
- 120 thousand tons - Saperavi,
The remaining volume is distributed among various technical varieties.
Over the past 24 hours, about 8 thousand tons of grapes were processed in Kakheti alone.
The harvest is also underway in Racha, where 1.8 thousand tons of Alexandroupoli and Mujuretuli have been processed in the Ambrolauri municipality.
The forecast harvest in the region is within the range of about 2 thousand tons.
At this stage, about 20 thousand winegrowers-farmers have planted their harvest in Kakheti and Racha, and 521 wineries are participating in the harvest process.
According to the agency, this year the Kakheti region is expected to harvest up to 200-250 thousand tons of grapes.
It is worth noting that, by the decision of the GD government, this year, the state enterprise LLC "Harvest Management Company" will collect surplus grapes at a differentiated price according to quality: Saperavi grapes harvested in the Kakheti region - 1.50 GEL, other wine varieties permitted by the Law of Georgia "On Vine and Wine" - 1.20 GEL, substandard or damaged grapes - 1.00 GEL. Subsidies will no longer be issued to private wine companies in the Kakheti region.
