PACE decision has no essential significance for our country - Kobakhidze

ირაკლი კობახიძე

In such a situation, there is no point in working in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe - our decision had absolutely no alternative, - this is how GD Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze responded to the statement of the Georgian Dream member, Tea Tsulukiani, that Georgian Dream is ceasing to work in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe.

According to the Prime Minister, if the attitude towards the Georgian people changes, Georgia will return to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe.

“The decision that Ms. Tea Tsulukiani announced on behalf of the delegation, on behalf of our team, was very important. Of course, this decision was absolutely without alternative, naturally, in such a situation, our delegation does not intend to continue working in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe and the delegation is ceasing to work, this delegation will be recalled by the Parliament of Georgia. If the attitude towards the Georgian people and our country changes, in this case, we will certainly return to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe. In such a situation, as we see today, there is no point in working there. This is a fairly simple issue. PACE decision had no essential significance for our country, although the absurdity is an aspect of this decision that deserves analysis,” Irakli Kobakhidze said on Imedi Live.

For information, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe calls on Georgia to hold new elections in the coming months, release political prisoners and continue its path towards European integration.

Out of 134 deputies, 114 voted in favor of the PACE resolution, 13 voted against, and 7 abstained.

After the adoption of the aforementioned resolution, Georgian Dream announced that it was ceasing its work in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe.

As Tea Tsulukiani explained when announcing the decision, "a number of reservations in the document are unacceptable, as they are unfair and groundless."
