Parliament has considered the amendments to the Law of Georgia on Combating Corruption in the first reading, in an accelerated procedure, and supported them with 80 votes.

The draft was presented to MPs by Grigol Giorgadze, Deputy Minister of Defense from the “GD” party.

“The purpose of the draft law is to clarify issues related to combining activities within the system of the Ministry of Defense of Georgia, taking into account the specific nature of the Ministry’s operations and existing fields,” the speaker noted.

According to the draft law, individuals defined under a specific article of the current legislation will be permitted to engage in paid activities while serving in the reserve of the Defense Forces.

Additionally, certain categories of employees within the Ministry of Defense will be allowed to perform paid work in sectors such as medical services, information technology, and aviation.

The draft also stipulates that an employee of the Ministry of Defense may, without remuneration, serve as an authorized manager or representative of a non-entrepreneurial (non-commercial) legal entity, an enterprise, or its subsidiary that has been transferred to the Ministry’s management, or of a legal entity under public law operating within the Ministry’s system or established by it, as well as a member of a supervisory body. Such activity will require one-time written consent from the head of the relevant institution, issued for a maximum term of one year.
