Georgia Hotel & Lodging Association reports, that the occupancy rate of hotels in Georgia has decreased by 15% this year compared to the last year, and their revenues have decreased by 70% compared to 2015-16. Hotelier Maia Murachashvili also confirms that there is a demand for budget accommodation facilities from tourists who come to the country while visiting BMGTV.

"This year, the average weighted price has definitely decreased, this is mainly due to the fact that more budget tourists are coming this year. Unfortunately, the influx of high-spending tourists from the European and American markets has been greatly reduced. Travel agencies also confirm that they demand very low prices for hotels.

As we saw from the statistics of the Tourism Administration, Turkey ranks first by the tourist number, followed by Russia and Armenia. Here we have migrants from one country, and from the neighboring countries they are mainly business visitors who may have come only for one night - they are not tourists," says Murachashvili.

According to her, due to the fact that almost a million out of 1.6 million tourists are from neighboring countries, hotels are experiencing bad results and their prices are also falling.

"This year, the price decrease for 5-star hotels is much more significant than it was in the previous year. As for 4-star hotels, they were in much better condition last year. In this period last year,  despite the off-season, occupancy was high in Gudauri and the price was much higher than now. Currently, there are no tourists in the country," says the hotelier.
