By the decision of Armenia’s Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, Hakob Vardanyan has been relieved of his duties as Deputy Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure of the Republic of Armenia.
The Prime Minister's decision was published on the official government website, e-gov.am.
Sona Harutyunyan, the spokesperson for the Ministry of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure, clarified on her Facebook page that Hakob Vardanyan, who oversaw the energy sector, resigned from his position at his own request.
It is worth noting that Hakob Vardanyan was appointed Deputy Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure in June 2018.
Previously, BMG reported on the resignation of Garegin Baghramyan, Chairman of Armenia's Public Services Regulatory Commission (PSRC).
While the official reasons for these resignations have not been disclosed, they coincide with growing dissatisfaction over the quality of the country's electricity supply.
Recently, Armenia’s energy system has been under significant strain. With the sharp increase in construction across the country, particularly in the capital Yerevan, existing capacities are often overloaded. This has led to frequent outages and disruptions in power supply.
Currently, it is known that approximately 60% of Armenia’s power grid infrastructure is outdated.
