Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze has thanked large retail chains for taking steps aimed at reducing product prices, saying the government will continue working on price stabilization based on recommendations from a parliamentary commission.

According to Kobakhidze, retail chains have already implemented certain measures to make essential goods more affordable. He added that in the medium term, structural problems identified by the parliamentary commission must be addressed, including inefficiencies in supply chains.

According to the Prime Minister, improving these structural issues will shorten supply chains and ultimately contribute to lower consumer prices. He emphasized that this is a medium-term process requiring continued coordinated work between the government and the private sector.

Retail associations confirm that supermarket chains have introduced discounts on selected “social basket” products over the past two weeks, though pricing varies across networks. Government officials describe the current reductions as short-term, noting that longer-term reforms are needed to achieve lasting price stability.
