Georgia’s Minister of Health, Mikheil Sarjveladze, announced that the country’s primary healthcare reform is expected to move from the pilot phase to full implementation in 2026.

According to the Minister, the pilot stage of the reform has been successful, and the Ministry is currently analyzing the data collected during this phase to finalize key conclusions before the nationwide rollout.

“The pilot stage of the primary healthcare reform has paid off. We are now summarizing the information received, and based on that, we will be ready to implement the reform in real mode starting from next year,” said Mikheil Sarjveladze.

The Minister underscored the crucial role of primary healthcare in preventing diseases and improving overall public health outcomes.

“Primary healthcare is of fundamental importance. It helps citizens plan their health more effectively, prevent diseases, and, when necessary, receive proper guidance to avoid unnecessary medical interventions,” Sarjveladze explained.

He added that during the pilot phase, the Ministry gathered valuable information through consultations with healthcare sector representatives, identifying factors influencing system efficiency and evaluating the overall potential of primary care services.

“We have collected very important data and held numerous meetings with the sector. Based on these findings, we can now set key priorities for the future of primary healthcare,” the Minister said.

According to Sarjveladze, the reform aims to make primary healthcare the cornerstone of Georgia’s health system, serving as both a preventive mechanism and an initial advisory platform for citizens seeking to maintain or improve their health.
