The salaries of all employees working on Georgia’s railway lines will increase by 20% starting in 2027, Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze announced at an event marking Railway Workers’ Day.
Kobakhidze said Georgia’s railway has played a vital role in the country’s economic development for 154 years and remains a key transport artery. He noted that growing interest in the Middle Corridor makes railway modernization increasingly important.
According to the Prime Minister, Georgia plans to invest $7 billion in transport infrastructure by 2032. The modernization of the country’s main railway line was completed at the end of last year, doubling its capacity and significantly reducing transportation times. The Baku–Tbilisi–Kars railway project has also been completed and is now operating at full capacity.
Kobakhidze thanked railway workers for ensuring safe and reliable operations, often under difficult conditions, and said the salary increase reflects the government’s appreciation of their contribution to the country.
