The large-scale rehabilitation of Mikheil Gakhokidze Street in Samgori District has been completed. The total cost of the project amounted to ₾24 million.

The street renovation works began on July 12, 2024, and were scheduled for completion within nine months, concluding in April 2025.

According to Tbilisi City Hall, the project involved a comprehensive overhaul of underground communications over 3,100 meters, including water supply, sewage, and gas networks. A drainage system was installed, and overhead power lines were moved into underground cable channels.

Mayor Kakha Kaladze, together with Vice Mayor Giorgi Tkemaladze, inspected the completed works.

“We have completed another road infrastructure project. Gakhokidze Street is now fully repaired. The situation in the area was challenging, and driving was inconvenient. Communications have been restored, the road section repaired, and landscaping is underway near the buildings. A 3-hectare park will be created, freeing space previously occupied by about 100 garages,” said Mayor Kaladze.

The project also included modern upgrades:

  • Installation of energy-efficient LED street lighting
  • New asphalt surface and sidewalks
  • Delineation of carriageways and zebra crossings
  • “Smart” traffic lights using artificial intelligence
  • Adaptations for people with special needs

Significant improvements were made to the greenery as well. An irrigation system was installed, 1,260 seedlings of various species were planted, and grass was sown over an area of 13,010 sq m.

The Gakhokidze Street project is part of Tbilisi City Hall’s ongoing effort to improve urban infrastructure and create safer, more comfortable spaces for residents and visitors alike.
