Relations with China might expand following talks with Chinese Universities

The Minister of Education, Science, and Youth of Georgia, Givi Mikanadze, held a working meeting with representatives from Lanzhou University and the Confucius Institute.

According to the Ministry of Education, the sides discussed prospects for deepening existing cooperation and implementing joint initiatives.

Givi Mikanadze noted that expanding partnerships between Georgian higher education and research institutions and Lanzhou University is particularly important for both teacher professional development and providing academic exchange programs for students.

"During the meeting, emphasis was placed on advancing the teaching of Chinese as a second foreign language. It was noted that starting from the 2025–2026 academic year, Chinese was officially introduced as a second foreign language across 9 public schools in Tbilisi.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the parties agreed to implement joint projects aimed at expanding future partnership," the ministry's press release stated.
