Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin held important negotiations with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian in Tehran, where the central topic was Iran's accession to the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU). Mishustin announced this at a Russian government meeting, according to TASS.

“We discussed in detail the issue of Iran joining the Eurasian Economic Union as an observer state,” stated the Russian Prime Minister.

In addition to discussing EAEU membership, both sides agreed to deepen cooperation across all sectors. Particular attention was given to joint projects in energy, transport infrastructure, high technology, and the digital economy.

Mishustin expressed hope that the Free Trade Agreement between the EAEU and Iran would come into force soon, which "will significantly improve conditions for Russian exporters in the Iranian market."

The meeting took place on September 30, after which Mishustin traveled to Armenia to participate in the Eurasian Economic Forum.

It is worth noting that during the session of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council in Yerevan on October 1, Iran emphasized the need for closer integration with the EAEU. Iran is hoping to soon be granted observer status within the organization.
