Starting July 23, Rustaveli Avenue in central Tbilisi is closed to all traffic as the city begins a full-scale rehabilitation project expected to last four months. Traffic restrictions also apply to part of Merab Kostava Street and Vaso Abashidze Street, while a section of Aleksandre Griboedov Street will temporarily operate as a two-way road.
Private vehicles heading from Melikishvili Avenue toward Freedom Square will be redirected via Tarkhnishvili, Barnovi, Makashvili, Kakabadze, Chonkadze, Agmashenebeli, Asatiani and Dadiani streets. Drivers traveling from Baratashvili Street toward Kostava Street will use Tabukashvili, Sandro Inashvili, First Republic Square, Akhvlediani and Nikoloz Nikolozadze streets. Traffic from Javakhishvili Street toward Rustaveli Avenue will be diverted through Tabukashvili, Lagidze, Mari Brosse streets and the Zviad Gamsakhurdia Embankment.
Public transport routes have also been adjusted. Several municipal bus and minibus lines—including buses 301, 305, 306, 308, 309, 310, 314, 326, 331, 337, 342, 344, 345, 352, 358, 388 and 397, as well as minibuses 472, 532, 540 and 541—will operate via Melikishvili Avenue, Heroes Square and the right bank of the Mtkvari River. Routes 359 and 391 will be diverted through Heroes Square and the Galaktion Tabidze Bridge, while bus 378 will no longer serve Rustaveli metro station. Minibus routes 408, 420 and 457 have also been temporarily rerouted.
