Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze says the full rehabilitation of Rustaveli Avenue will be completed by the end of November, rejecting recent reports that the project deadline has been changed. Speaking before the municipal government meeting, Kaladze called the information circulating in some media outlets and social networks “speculative” and urged residents to rely only on official updates from the relevant municipal services.
According to the mayor, the rehabilitation works began on July 23 and were initially planned to take four months. He said the project includes the renewal of underground utilities and road infrastructure, and insisted that the works will be completed within the announced timeframe. Kaladze also denied claims that the deadline had been moved forward to October or that the quality of the works would be compromised.
The mayor also rejected reports alleging that large numbers of mature trees were being cut down during the rehabilitation process. He said claims that the Tbilisi City Hall was damaging green areas were false and stressed that the municipality would continue providing what he described as accurate information about the project’s progress.
Meanwhile, the managing partner of Smart Solutions, the company carrying out the rehabilitation works, previously told BM.GE that the initial 100-day deadline may not be sufficient. According to Levan Gogsadze, despite round-the-clock work, several factors complicate completion within the original timeframe, including the limited working area, coordination with other contractors operating on site, and changes required during project implementation.
