The rehabilitation of Rustaveli Avenue will begin next year, as research has revealed that the project will require significantly more time than initially anticipated,” Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze said.

“Regarding Rustaveli Avenue, we have conducted extensive studies that indicate sizable underground work is necessary. The underground collector on Rustaveli Avenue is in a state of emergency. Currently, there is no functional drainage, water, or sewage system along this central thoroughfare—everything is in disarray. This situation leads to various issues for nearby buildings. Consequently, dismantling the existing systems will require considerable time and effort.

We initially expected the rehabilitation to take three months, with work slated to start at the end of May. However, we must postpone the project until next year to adequately restore the necessary infrastructure. Rustaveli Avenue is a vital arterial road, and its prolonged closure would create significant challenges and discomfort for residents. Therefore, we will delay the construction until next year,” stated Kakha Kaladze.
