Silknet has officially broken ground on Georgia's first Tier III Certified commercial data center in Tbilisi, marking a significant milestone in the country's digital infrastructure development.
The facility will be developed by Silknet and operated by Silk Cloud, Silknet's wholly owned cloud and managed services subsidiary. It will deliver 2 MW of high-resilience capacity designed to support cloud computing, AI workloads, and enterprise services to international standards. Built to handle the high-density power requirements of modern AI and large-scale enterprise operations, the facility is expected to be operational by 2027.
Engineered to obtain Uptime Tier III certification (TCDD — Tier Certification of Design Documents, and TCCF — Tier Certification of Constructed Facility), the data center will guarantee high availability and the ability to perform maintenance without service interruption — a fundamental requirement for enterprises, financial institutions, technology companies, public sector organizations, and anyone running mission-critical operations.
Once operational, the facility will ensure that businesses no longer need to rely on infrastructure located outside the country, while meeting the same standards of security and performance available anywhere in the world. For public sector organizations, financial institutions, and legal entities, this means full data residency within Georgia, in compliance with local data protection requirements.
The project brings together a team of internationally recognized partners, several with a long-standing history with Silknet. Orange joins as a key partner, in a direct continuation of the strategic alliance the two companies established under the Orange Alliance program in 2024. B2B ICT services were a core focus of that agreement from the outset, and this facility is its largest project to date. Under the alliance, Integrated Solutions — a subsidiary of European telecommunications leader Orange Poland — collaborated on defining technical requirements, led partner selection, and supervised the preparation of the feasibility study and concept design. During the construction phase, Integrated Solutions/Orange Poland will support Silknet with technical advisory services. The project is further supported by a group of key international partners, each bringing specialized expertise:
- BCG — Business strategy and market advisory
- Atos — Feasibility study and concept design
- Coteccons Construction — EPC leader with extensive experience in major construction projects
- Huawei Technologies — Key infrastructure components and expertise in large international data centers
Through Silk Cloud, the facility will provide the full range of services that modern organizations require local cloud infrastructure with ultra-low latency, hybrid cloud integration, round-the-clock monitoring, managed IT services, advanced cybersecurity, and hyperscale-ready infrastructure. All delivered locally in Georgia, to global standards.
The data center sits on top of Silknet's national infrastructure — more than 4,000 km of fiber backbone with cross-border connections into Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Turkey, and onward routes to Europe, the Middle East, and Asia. Operating on a carrier-neutral basis, it also offers customers fiber connectivity from other Georgian ISPs, giving enterprises the freedom to choose their preferred providers and design redundant, multi-carrier architectures.
By combining Silknet's national connectivity infrastructure with Silk Cloud's cloud, AI, and ICT services, the project establishes a fully integrated digital ecosystem built to international standards — strengthening Georgia's data sovereignty, digital resilience, and capacity to attract international business. Strategically located at the crossroads of Europe and Asia, the facility is designed to serve not only Georgia but the wider Caucasus and Black Sea region.
