The founder of “Agrokiziki,” Beka Gonashvili, says Georgia’s new state agricultural program is more complex than previous schemes and requires stronger farmer involvement. He stresses that financial support alone will not deliver results without skills and innovation.

He argues that past experience shows simple funding approaches are often ineffective. According to him, farmers must have access to knowledge and modern technologies to increase productivity and stay competitive in a changing global market.

“If we just spend money without direction, there will be no result. This does not benefit either the state or farmers. The program must include education and technology transfer,” Gonashvili said.

The Ministry of Agriculture has launched a new “Agro Co-Financing” model, shifting to unified project funding with investments from GEL 100,000 to GEL 2 million. The reform also includes new priority sectors and a farmer registry to improve targeting and monitoring of state support.
