“Law enforcement agencies are instructed to demonstrate that political or other official issues are not a priority. The Prosecutor’s Office, the State Security Service, and the Ministry of Internal Affairs are actively working to uncover all possible corruption cases,” said Shalva Papuashvili, Chair of the Georgian Parliament, commenting on the detention of former State Security Service head Grigol Liluashvili.
As Papuashvili noted, the Prosecutor General provided a detailed account today regarding the accusations, and therefore, he cannot comment on specific details at this stage.
“The Prime Minister assured Parliament and the public that Georgia would rank among the top three European countries in terms of corruption. A key part of this promise is our commitment to actively exposing corruption cases. The strength of the ruling team, our government, is demonstrated by the fact that, if any misconduct exists within our ranks, it will be exposed,” said Papuashvili.
The Parliament Speaker reiterated that the true measure of strength lies in “our willingness to confront and disclose misconduct whenever it occurs.”
“This is a direct result of our sound institutional framework,” added Papuashvili.
Today, the Prosecutor’s Office arrested former Head of the State Security Service, Grigol Liluashvili.
