Georgia’s sugar imports fell in the first quarter of 2025, dropping by 13.4% year-on-year. During this period, the country imported sugar worth $10.9 million (19,988 tons), according to official statistics.
The main supplier of sugar in the reporting period was Poland, where imports increased fourfold. Poland has now become the leading exporter to Georgia, overtaking France, which had dominated supply in previous years.
In 2026’s first quarter ranking, France followed Poland with $3.2 million worth of exports, while the Netherlands, Belgium, and the United Kingdom completed the top five suppliers. The overall decline in imports was mainly driven by reduced shipments from France.
Smaller volumes of sugar were also imported from Azerbaijan, Ukraine, Colombia, Greece, and Italy. The market shift reflects changes in supply structure following government policies, including the extension of the sugar import tax.
