On Friday, July 12, the Armenian Parliament passed amendments to the law regulating the use of assisted reproductive technologies, according to the ARKA news agency.
The amendments increase the age limit for families using surrogacy from 53 to 55 years. Additionally, the minimum age for surrogate mothers has been raised from 35 to 38 years.
Another change concerns the storage, export, import, and destruction of reproductive cells.
New regulations have been introduced, allowing biological parents to donate their cells. Medical institutions will be permitted to destroy or donate reproductive cells, but only with the consent of the biological parents.
Certain restrictions have also been established on the use of assisted reproductive technologies for non-citizens of the Republic of Armenia. Preference, given the high demand, will be given to Armenian citizens.
