Within the framework of the Tbilisi Silk Road Forum, Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, Tamar Ioseliani, met with the Deputy Minister of Transport and Infrastructure of Turkey, Aton Osman Boyraz.

According to the Ministry of Economy, the sides discussed Georgia–Turkey cooperation in the field of transport, covering maritime, land, and air connectivity in both bilateral and multilateral formats.

Particular attention was paid to the development of transport corridors between Europe and Asia. The officials highlighted that both Georgia and Turkey play an active role in advancing the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (Middle Corridor), which is becoming increasingly important for strengthening regional ties and facilitating global trade.

The meeting also underscored the strategic relevance of the Baku–Tbilisi–Kars railway project, which has become an integral part of the Middle Corridor and contributes to enhancing the competitiveness and diversification of transport routes across the region.

Discussions also touched upon maritime transport cooperation, including port development, ferry operations, and freight transportation. It was noted that close collaboration between Georgia and Turkey in this area strengthens the logistics potential of the Black Sea region.

The parties further emphasized the successful cooperation in civil aviation, which significantly contributes to tourism development and economic growth. From January to June 2025, 615,050 passengers traveled between Georgia and Turkey on direct regular flights, marking a 5.9% increase compared to the same period in 2024.

At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides reaffirmed their readiness to continue close cooperation across all areas of the transport sector, emphasizing that enhanced connectivity serves regional stability, economic development, and the broader goal of Europe–Asia integration.

The meeting was also attended by Ivane Abashidze, Director of the Maritime Transport Agency; Bakur Mikadze, Director of the Land Transport Agency; and Lasha Abashidze, Director General of Georgian Railways.
