GD PM Irakli Kobakhidze, together with the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, Mariam Kvrivishvili, reviewed the construction of a new 3.5-kilometer runway at Kutaisi International Airport, which will be commissioned in 2026 and will be capable of accommodating any type of passenger or cargo aircraft.
The Head of Government of Georgia received detailed information on the ongoing and planned development projects of Kutaisi International Airport from Tamar Ioseliani, Chairperson of the Supervisory Board of the United Airports of Georgia and General Director Levan Moseshvili.
As a result of construction works worth 239 500 000 GEL, Kutaisi Airport's infrastructure will be expanded with four new taxiways, while the number of aircraft parking stands will increase to 17.
GD Prime Minister was also briefed on the installation of an automated border control system, which aims to reduce the time required for Georgian citizens to cross the border, simplify procedures and improve the overall quality of airport services. The airport already operates electronic gates and by the end of the year, a business lounge-worth over 1 million GEL in investment-will be inaugurated.
Starting from the first quarter of 2026, passengers will also have access to a fast-track service, which will further enhance the airport's capacity.
"Kutaisi Airport will have the longest runway in Georgia, capable of receiving aircraft of all sizes. The airport's infrastructure is also being developed in other directions. We examined the progress of the project in detail and everything is being implemented on schedule. Ultimately, the completion of this project will ensure a significant increase in passenger flow at Kutaisi Airport. This is our main objective. Kutaisi Airport is already the fastest-growing in terms of passenger traffic and with this infrastructure project we must support further growth and the systematic development of the airport," stated Irakli Kobakhidze.
GD Prime Minister also visited the airport's control tower, where 14 air traffic controllers from SakAeroNavigatsia ensure full coordination of aircraft movements on the runway and taxiways.
Currently, flights from Kutaisi International Airport are operated to 32 destinations in 17 countries.
