TAV Georgia General Manager Tea Zakaradze says that as part of the newly announced $150 million expansion of Tbilisi International Airport, the operator will create a fully new, significantly larger space dedicated to business travelers and business aviation services.
Her comments follow the government's decision to extend TAV Airports’ management contract for Tbilisi Airport by five years, through 2031. The renewed agreement includes major investments that will double terminal capacity from 5 million to more than 10 million passengers, and increase aircraft stands from 58 to 65.
According to Zakaradze, the upgraded airport will introduce new premium infrastructure:
“A completely new area will be created for business travelers and business services, three times larger than what we have today. For private charters and businesspeople flying with their own aircraft, Tbilisi International Airport is the country’s gateway, so the infrastructure must fully meet their needs.”
She added that the existing runway will remain sufficient for projected traffic levels over the next five to six years, noting that the contract extension ensures adequate operational capacity until 2031. The expansion works will focus primarily on terminal upgrades and additional aircraft parking spots.
The Georgian government reports that Tbilisi International Airport served 5.4 million passengers in 2025.
Tbilisi Airport is owned by state company United Airports of Georgia, while TAV Urban Georgia operates it under a concession. In 2024, the operator posted 341.4 million GEL in revenue and 184.2 million GEL in profit. The company receives $25 per departing international passenger under its licensing agreement.
